Repair the Disk in drive X: is not Formatted Error

Formatting Drive in this PC

If you see a message saying “The disk in drive X: is not formatted. Do you want to format it now?” on your computer screen, don’t click “yes” right away. First, try removing the removable drive and plugging it into another USB port or computer. If the problem persists, you may need to format the USB drive to use it again.

Keep in mind that formatting any removable storage will erase all files stored on it. However, there are programs available that can help recover data from a formatted or deleted drive.

The “disk not formatted” error usually occurs when a removable storage device is not properly removed from the computer, and it may also indicate that the device is nearing the end of its useful life.

To fix the problem, perform the following:

Format Drive
Windows Disk Management

Alternative Way of Accessing Windows Disk Management

  1. Connect the removable drive to your computer.
  2. Right-click the Windows “Start” button and select “Disk Management.”
  3. In Disk Management, you will see a list of all the drives connected to your computer.
  4. Find the removable drive you want to format in the list, right-click on it, and select “Format.”
  5. In the Format dialog box, you can choose the file system, allocation unit size, and volume label for the drive.
  6. Once you have selected your options, click “OK” to start the formatting process.

Note: Formatting a removable drive will erase all the data stored on it, so make sure to back up any important files before proceeding.

To format your USB flash drive, you can right-click on the drive letter in your computer and select “Format.” Under the format options, you can uncheck the Quick Format process and click “Start” or “OK.” Wait for the formatting process to complete, and you will see a message saying “Format complete.”

If the formatting process fails, you may see an error message saying “Windows was unable to complete the format.” This error usually indicates a failure in the memory card (such as micro SD, SD card, M2, Memory Stick, etc.) or USB flash drive.
