The problem occurred during the installation of Windows 7 operating system.
With this problem, I want to delete the existing partition of my hard disk. Then I wanna create a new partition, but when I began installing the Windows operating system the message. The following error message displayed:
“Windows cannot be installed to this disk. The selected disk has an MBR partition table. On EFI systems, Windows can only be installed to GPT disks”.
This error means, the existing partition or layout of the storage device is not compatible for the installation of Windows 7 Operating system.
To fix the problem, I have to convert the disk layout to GPT format.
Difference between MBR and GPT
MBR disks have single partition table to keep track all the blocks in the partition. If the table becomes corrupt/damage, the entire disk must be recovered from backup.
While Windows GPT-based disks have multiple, redundant partition tables so that if one is detected as being corrupt, it can self-heal itself from a redundant copy of the table.
